Aechmea pimenti-velosoi glabra / 'Pie In The Sky'

"Aechmea pimenti-velosoi glabra on page 62 of Baensch's book, Blooming Bromeliads, is incorrect. It looks very similar to Aechmea 'Pie'. See Bromeliad Cultivar Register. There does seem to be links with the variegated plant known as 'Pie in the Sky'! The correct A. pimenti-velosoi is as shown here! The 'Aussie' plant called A. pimenti-velosoi agrees with the formal description and a herbarium specimen of a clone of this plant is held at Selby Gardens. This misidentification seems to have originated from Seidel's nursery in Brazil."
