My first attempt at naming is based on photos of Creamy 1. These were taken when the plant arrived and I kept coming to T. aurea, but the flower was - well - creamy! so that was its name and I wrote a lengthy article in the Australian Journal "Bromeletter" warning others about Maurice's plants from this seed batch. Other plants in Adelaide from the same source showed similarities, so if it was a hybrid then an F1 was a probability. In November 1998 my T. 'Creamy' again came into flower, but this time the inflorescence kept growing and growing and looked remarkably like T. purpurea / straminea. If it were not for the dead scape on the ' mother' plant you would think it a different plant. So I took T. 'Creamy' 2 photos because I was sure that many would not believe me. The flowers are still creamy AND without the blue tips to the petals associated with T. purpurea / straminea. So T. 'Creamy' it is, although I am wondering why the difference in the inflorescence.
The moral of this story? Whatever happens don't lose your label. If it is wrong at least you have leads to follow.
