Tillandsia landbeckii ssp. andina var. rigidor     W.Till   Die Bromelie  3/1991

 

Plant- flowering 15 cm high, making a 6 to 11 cm long stem which with the leaf sheaths are 2 to 2.5 mm diameter.  Internodes 6 to 8 mm long.

Leaf- distichous, awl-like, stiff.

Leaf sheath- enclosing the stem, about 1 cm long, dense appressed scales yet naked at the base, long nerved.

Leaf blade- clearly angled from the stem and spreading outwards, in cross section roundish and the top side with a clear groove, about the middle becoming abruptly bent upwards and flattened, finely acuminate 4 to 5 cm long, appressed silvery scales, about 1 to 1.2 mm diameter at the bottom portion.

Scape- (3.5-) 5 to 6 (-9) cm long, scaled, about 0.6 mm diameter directly under the flower.

Inflorescence- 1 (-2) flowering with usually two outer densely scaled, nerved and short tailed scape-bracts directly under the inflorescence.

Flower bracts- as long as the sepal nerved, densely scaled and practically no tail, about 11 mm long.

Sepal- naked, straw like, nerved, free, broad tipped, about 9.5 mm long.

Petal- unknown.

Stamen- unknown.

Style- unknown.

Capsule- short beaked, slender, 19 mm long, 2 mm diameter.

 

Type- Peru, depto Cuzco, Prov Quispicanchis, in river valley of Rio Vilcanota, near Huancarpay, 13 km north of Andayhuaylillas, about 3100m, epiphytic on bushes 17. 8. 1982  leg W Till & E Vitek 820817/92-5 (=WT200/2) Holo WU Also Peru, Depto Lima, in river valley Rio Huaura 1978 leg R Ehlers (Para WU).

 

Differs from ssp. andina in that

1. Stiffer leaves

2. Longer internodes

3. Silvery adpressed scales.
